Directed by Coach Ryan Raponey
This past season Coach Raponey led the Lewis Mills Spartans Boys Basketball program to a 19-6 record, their first ever CCC South Division Championship and an appearance in the CIAC State Championship game for the first time since 1996. Coach Raponey stresses the importance of a next point wins mentality with his team. A next point wins mentality is about being present in the moment, applying the concentration, effort and intention on each and every play within the game of basketball. Coach Raponey teaches his players to use this mentality in individual workouts, team practice and games. Through a variety of drills, competitions, small sided games, and full court games players will gain better understanding of:

  • How to handle success and failure within the game of basketball by staying present.
  • Offensive skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, finishing, screening and rebounding.
  • Offensive concepts like getting open, catching to shoot, creating space and attacking the offensive glass.
  • Defensive concepts of closing out, guarding your yard, contesting without fouling and one and done rebounding.
  • Team offensive concepts of spacing, ball movement, and player movement.
  • Team defensive concepts of help, rotation, and recovery.

The purpose of the Next Point Wins Basketball Clinic is to get each player to increase their confidence while playing basketball by encouraging them to improve their skills, compete as a team and have fun playing the game.
